Landing Gear

Heavy Duty Axles
We started by profiling 1.625” diameter thick walled 4130 chromoly tubing. Indexed and welded a laser cut brake mount flange. We then rough turned the diameter, faced the flange, and drilled the cotter pin holes. The next step is precision grinding and thread grinding the shaft to 1 1/2 inch axle size. The final step is welding the shock strut mounting bosses, and the axle is ready for the next assembly.

Gear Attach Fittings
These fittings are cnc machined from solid 4130 round bar. The rear fitting is butt welded to the tube while purging argon gas inside the tube ensuring 100 percent weld penetration , reinforcement, and purity of weld. The Forward gear fitting telescopes into the end of the gear tube, doubling the material thickness of the tube. Then welded and rosette welded. These fittings are much stronger than standard, and are easier to manufacture and assemble.

Precision Assembly
We then do final assembly, welding all the joints 100 percent while clamped into the fixture to ensure maximum accuracy and clocking of the gear assembly. Rigid precision tooling allows verification of geometry when removing gear leg from fixture.

Standard and Extended Length Gear
Our tooling allows manufacturing both standard and 3 inch extended length PA-18 style landing gear.

Quality Welding
Precision fitted joints, and experienced qualified welders, are the key to a quality welded product. We would like you to compare our quality with any of our competitors.
